This article is written by Margaret Shaw, D.D.S., P.A. Welcome…
Read MoreSince 1997, Dr. Shaw has participated in 12 dental mission trips to Nicaragua and 1 dental mission trip to the Amazon. On these trips, she had the opportunity to work with two premier oral surgeons, Dr. Robert Lamb (Edmond, OK) and Dr. Rex Witherspoon (Springfield, MO).
Under the tutelage of these top surgeons and working under extremely challenging conditions, she was exposed to techniques that go far beyond the procedural scope of most general dentists. As a result, she has developed valuable skills and has become proficient at difficult extractions. Her organizational skills extend beyond managing her own private practice. In the late 1990s, at the request of the director of Central Dallas Ministries (now City Square), she set up their dental clinic, which provided low cost dental care to needy families. Her role involved purchasing all equipment, establishing office protocols, and recruiting the initial staff. She also volunteered in this clinic for several years. Dr. Shaw is an active participant in Texas Dentists for Healthy Smiles, a volunteer program of donated dental services for disabled, elderly, and medically-compromised people. She has numerous hours of continuing education, with an emphasis on oral pathology, oral lesions as well as geriatric dentistry.
