Before deciding on a dental bridge, it’s best to have some knowledge of the procedure so you can make an informed decision. Below, we’ll explore dental bridges in detail, including the types, the procedure, their benefits, and the varying costs of dental bridges in Ovilla, TX.
Whether you’re considering a dental bridge for yourself or a loved one, the information below will provide valuable insight.
As the name suggests, a dental bridge bridges the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It’s a dental restoration typically consisting of two or more crowns covering the teeth on either side of the gap.
These anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth. Between them, your dentist attaches false teeth, or pontics, to fill the open space.
Dental bridges can be made from various materials, such as gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination. The choice of material often depends on the location of the missing tooth, aesthetic considerations, and cost.
Dental bridges are a popular choice for restoring smiles and functionality without the cost of a dental implant.
There are four main types of dental bridges. The dentists at Ovilla Family Dentistry will review your situation and recommend the appropriate type of bridge.
The type of bridge your dentist recommends will depend on the strength and health of the surrounding teeth and the location of the gap.
The process of getting a dental bridge involves several steps, which typically span at least two visits to the dentist. Let’s review the steps of getting a dental bridge.
During the initial consultation, the dentist will examine your oral health. This includes checking the health of your gums and other teeth to ensure they can support a bridge. If the surrounding teeth are strong enough, the dentist will prepare them by recontouring these teeth to allow room for a crown to be placed over them.
If you’re getting an implant-supported dental bridge, your dentist will check your jawbone to ensure it can support a dental implant. If not, they may recommend a bone graft or alternative dental bridge option.
The dentist will then make impressions of your teeth, which serve as a model from which the bridge, pontic, and crowns will be made.
Once your dental bridge is ready, the next step is fitting. During this visit, your dentist will carefully check and adjust the bridge to achieve a proper fit. The dentist then fixes the bridge into place with a special adhesive.
If you’re receiving an implant-supported dental bridge, the dentist will first place the implants in your jawbone. You’ll then wait several months for the implants to heal and fuse with the bone. You’ll then return to have the abutments and crown attached.
It’s important to note that creating a dental bridge is highly customized to ensure a comfortable fit and a natural look.
Choosing a dental bridge to replace missing teeth comes with several benefits:
The cost of dental bridges can vary depending on several factors, including the type of bridge, the materials used, and the complexity of the procedure. Fortunately, some dental insurance plans may cover some of the cost, but it’s important to check with your insurance provider to understand what is covered.
We’re happy to review your coverage here at Ovilla Family Dentistry and let you know how much of the procedure your insurance will cover. Then, you can set up an appointment for a full exam to get an accurate cost.

Maintaining your dental bridge is crucial for its longevity, and good oral hygiene practices are key to this. This includes regular brushing and flossing, as well as using a special floss threader to clean under the bridge.
You should also avoid hard or sticky foods to help protect your dental bridge.
Regular dental checkups are important. They allow your dentist to monitor the condition of your dental bridge and address any issues early.

Having an implant done by Dr. Sharpe. Everything has been clearly explained and scheduled.
This dental office is excellent. Staff is professional and friendly. Appreciate the upbeat personality of Dr. Sharpe. She always has a smile and explains what needs to be done and any options available.

Latest visit in February was 5 stars as always. Was seen by Dr.Shaw about my current situation. She recommended the course of action to be followed. Teeth were polished by Angie who is a real credit to Dr. Shaw's top notch staff.
I recommend this dental office and staff wholeheartedly to anyone searching for a new dentist.

Latest visit Nov 29th. Another crown snapped off. Called and was worked into a busy schedule. This entire staff from Amanda, Angie and the doctors are all superb. Friendly, efficient and professional. So very glad I decided to use Ovilla Family Dentistry. Wouldn't go anywhere else!
Oct 1st. Had a crown come off its post. Called DR. Shaw's number and got an appointment to come in early the next day. Dr. Shaw explained my options and told me that while I needed a new crown, she would do her best to cement this one back in. Thirty minutes later I had the crown firmly in place and was headed back out the door.
Dr. Shaw is a compassionate, caring professional who listens to her patients and offers them options. She actually told me that I might want to go back to the dentist who put my crown in, but I told her if it needed to be re-done I wanted her to be the one to do it.
Another 5 star experience.
Spent several hours searching for a good dentist in the Waxahachie area. Was surprised to see all of the 5 star rating for Dr. Shaw and her staff. Now I understand the rating first hand.
What a superb dental experience (ok, no one likes to pay the bill, but that aside). From the reception desk to the check out were all first class and definitely 5 star. I was seen by Angie and treated by Dr. Sheibley. This is the first time since I was a teenager that a dentist was able to numb a tooth while I was in the chair. I usually tell the dentist to go ahead and drill, the Novocain will take affect later. Not this visit. I experienced no pain and no problem while in the chair. Both ladies were kind, patient and informative. Checking several times to make certain I was doing okay.
The treatment they prescribed was conservative, but also may prevent a root canal. They could have just said a root canal and gone the more expensive way first.
I drive quite a distance to get to this office, but it is definitely worth it in my opinion. I was impressed enough that I have my wife schedule for a check-up with Dr. Shaw's staff next week. I would definitely recommend this dental office and staff to anyone searching for a new dentist.
Really amazing service I was in so much pain and they made sure I was taken care of quickly I will be a forever client
